About the Kekayon Puppet Museum

      Kekayon Puppet Museum was founded by the late Prof. DR. dr. KPH. Soejono Prawirohadikusumo (UGM professor and mental neurologist) and inaugurated by KGPAA Paku Alam VIII in 1991. This museum collects various types of puppets in Indonesia.

      Aside from being an art and cultural tourism destination, this museum also has educational, research and recreational functions.

      Puppet is a noble richness of Indonesian culture that we should be proud of. Proven by UNESCO's recognition of wayang as a world heritage.

      This museum is also comfortable and beautiful with a large parking park and grand pendapa for wedding celebrations, exhibitions, meetings, gatherings, and others.

Various Types of Collections in Kekayon Puppet Museum

      In the 1.1 ha puppet museum complex, thousands of puppets of various types can be witnessed, such as the Purwa, Madya, Gedhoog, Klithik, Dupara, Diponegaran, Krucil, Golek, 100 Kurawa puppets, and others.

      Various kinds of wayang collections which are hundreds of years old, such as: Wayang Golek Thengul, Wayang Madura, Bali and Lombok. Until modern puppets such as Wayang Perjuangan / Suluh and Wayang Republik are now often performed.

Facilities at the Kekayon Puppet Museum

      The existing building consists of an auditorium room with audio visual facilities which is used for initial explanation for visitors.

      In addition there are also several smaller museum building units such as the main building with Javanese architecture complete with kuncung, pendapa, longkang, peringgitan, ndalem with sarean middle.

      There is also a large pendapa building that can be used for various purposes such as weddings, meetings, art training, and dinner tour packages while watching a puppet show.

      Another attraction is the collection of puppet astrology. Namely the visitor can match the zodiac character with the characters of puppet characters.
